Discover the wonders of kinesio taping! 🐴 Osteopath Laura breaks down why it's essential, where it's effective, and how it benefits our beloved horses. 💡
Stability is good for the healing process of a broken bone, but is not good for soft‣tissue problems. A light, moderate, and controlled movement is better for the healing process of tendons, ligaments, and muscles, which is exactly what the flexible and stretchable kinesiology tape does. 🦴🏃♂️
👉🏼 How does it work?
Considering basic physical laws, everything that is stretched has a tendency to recoil. Thus when the stretched tape is applied, it recoils and thereby lifts the hair coat and the skin. By lifting the outer layer of the skin, it increases the space in the tissue underneath, allowing blood and lymphatic fluid to flow more easily. Waste product will be washed out and new blood with nutrients and oxygen can flow in, improving circulation. This 'lifting' effect continues on to the tissue layer underneath, then into the next one and so on.. 🔄💆♀️
Kinesiology tape can activate or relax muscle activity depending on application. It supports and stabilizes tendons and ligaments while allowing full range of motion. The tape attaches like a second skin to the body and therefore has no restrictions during regular activity. On the contrary, it actually promotes and improves it. 🐴🩹
❗️The benefits:
‣ Pressure and pain relief
‣ Improves circulation, reducing swelling and inflammation
‣ Supports joint mobility and muscle activity without restricting mobility
‣ Improves proprioception
‣ Improves gait
‣ Encourages muscles to relax
‣ Allows horse to heal naturally 🌟
🚨Indications:
‣ Helpful with fatigue symptoms after intense training session
‣ Muscular issues ‣ the blood circulation in the musculature will improve and increase allowing muscle cells to recover quicker and efficiently
‣ Swelling ‣ promotes circulation, the tape enhances the outflow of fluids and waste products
‣ Joint stability
‣ Trigger points ‣ the lifting effect, even local tight spots can be resolved or can be loosened up.
‣ Scar tissue ‣ helps to loosen up the rigid and though tissue by scar
‣ Tendon injuries the circulation‣promoting effect of kinesiology tape also supports the regeneration process
‣ Fascia tension
‣ Pain ‣ because of the outflow of waste products and the lifting effect, space will be created in the tissue. Doing so takes away the pressure from the pain receptors in that area and pain relief sets in. 💡
